“I’m excited for Dan and Patrick to join the already incredible list of award recipients as we celebrate our 17th Anniversary. Although they don’t seek recognition, they are most deserving,” said Vish Bhatt, 2020 Torchbearers President. “Dan and Patrick consistently embody ‘service above self’ and are role models in our community. Their individual and collective impact have set the stage for a better Akron and Greater Akron for years to come.”

Daniel Rice will be recognized as the Read Family Friend of Young Leaders Award recipient. This award recognizes an individual or organization that has made a significant impact on the development of young professionals in the Greater Akron area.

Rice is being recognized for his efforts to promote opportunities for young leaders to get involved in the community. Through his leadership as the Executive Director of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, Rice has developed an emerging leaders board to serve the Coalition, partnered with Torchbearers to improve the Park East neighborhood as a part of Reimagining the Civic Commons, and has participated in Torchbearers’ board shadowing program to give young leaders insight into serving on nonprofit boards throughout the community. He is always a friendly face and eager to mentor future leaders of Akron.

“I am truly honored and humbled to receive the Read Family Friend of Young Leaders award from Torchbearers, and being included with some of Akron’s most dedicated and visionary leaders,” said Rice. “It is my privilege to work alongside Torchbearer members as they transform and influence all sectors of our community with their unparalleled vision, passion and commitment. Through their servant leadership, Torchbearers impact the lives of Akron’s residents in extraordinary ways.”

Patrick Bravo, Executive Director of the Summit County Land Bank and Torchbearers Class of 2012, will be recognized as the Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. This award recognizes a Torchbearers alumnus who has used the skills and connections acquired through their Torchbearers experience to actively and significantly assist young leaders in realizing their full leadership potential.

Bravo is being recognized for his commitment to Torchbearers and the greater Akron community. He is a constant advocate for Torchbearers and his pride in the organization is evidenced every time he speaks publicly or helps a member or alumnus to navigate a challenge or celebrate success. In addition to serving as the first Executive Director of the Summit County Land Bank, Bravo has served on numerous boards, including Akron Public Schools, Child Guidance & Family Solutions, Salvation Army, and the Steering Committee for Akron’s Cultural Plan.

“I am very proud of the impact that Torchbearers has had in this community, but they have also had a significant impact in my life,” said Bravo. “It is such an honor to be recognized and I am truly grateful.”
