A Statement from Torchbearers – 6/2/2020

Date: 6/2/2020, 4:30 PM EST

Torchbearers is deeply outraged by the wrongful deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and far too many other members of our Black communities. As we reflect on these painful reminders of the systemic injustices and racism that have plagued us and our country, we must take a stand and we must seek change.

As Torchbearers, we have always lived beyond just words, because that is not enough. We take action when and where it is needed.

We take action by welcoming those who are different from us in appearance, thought, and ideology. We take action by recognizing and celebrating the diversity of our membership. We take action by serving our community and working to make it better for us all. We take action by becoming the change we want to see in our world.

We stand together through challenging moments. We help each other develop our weaknesses into strengths. We are unified in our love for a diverse Akron and Greater Akron Community.
