Shift Akron brings diversity and inclusion workshop to local leaders

More than 100 local leaders across various work sectors were brought together on May 30th for the third annual Shift Akron event. Coordinated by the Leadership Akron Alumni Association and Torchbearers, the goal of Shift Akron events is to assemble a diverse group of leaders to cause a shift in greater Akron through a shared experience and a shared commitment to make a personal behavior shift.

The topic of the this year’s event was “Moving Akron Toward Inclusive Leadership” and sought to help attendees understand what it means to be an inclusive leader and why investing in diversity matters to our community.

Torchbearers members Vish Bhatt and Edwin Hubbard, Jr. both presented at the event. Edwin served on the opening panel and shared his thoughts on creating a culture for Diversity & Inclusion, while Vish designed and moderated a panel from Akron Children’s Hospital on how they are putting D&I into practice.

“Torchbearers and Leadership Akron seek to work together to fuel leadership in Akron by empowering and connecting existing and emerging leaders across a broad spectrum of diversity. So it only makes sense to me that we would partner to sponsor a broad conversation on inclusive leadership,” shared Torchbearers president Hillary Stewart.
