No. Anyone who lives or works chiefly in the Greater Akron Community can apply.

What is the application/selection process?

An applicant must submit an application online by the end of the June deadline. The Membership Committee carefully reviews and scores all submitted applications during July. Based on these scores, the top 72 applicants will have an interview in August with a 3-member team, made up of Torchbearers Board Members, Committee Chairpersons, and Membership Committee Members. The purpose of the interview is for the applicant to provide additional background on his/her application. Notification of acceptance into Torchbearers is delivered before the end of November. The new Class will consist of approximately 40 individuals and 2 alternates. The alternates will be moved into the current Class if an opening arises. Otherwise, the alternates will be automatically accepted into the following year’s Class.

How selective is the process?

In general, there are 2-3 applicants for every spot in the Class. Due to the size restriction of each year’s Class, many well-qualified candidates will not be chosen. Applicants are encouraged to reapply in subsequent years.
