Listening & Feedback Session: Jayland Walker Grand Jury

On June 27th, 2022, Jayland Walker was murdered right here in Akron by eight Akron police officers. If you’re unfamiliar with this tragic incident, I encourage you to research it. Starting Monday, April 10th, 2023, a grand jury will be seated to hear the evidence surrounding his death. As an organization whose purpose is “To Ignite Young Change-Makers To Shape Akron,” I believe it’s essential to make ourselves heard on this matter to provide solidarity and seek such change. I want our voice to represent our organization, not just the viewpoints of one person or group. I intend to gather feedback on this in two ways:

1. I’ve scheduled a Zoom call for 5 pm on Monday, April 10th. If you’re available and interested in providing feedback or hearing the input of others, please join.
2. Our DE&I taskforce leadership has created a Google Form to capture written input. If you cannot join the call Monday or feel more comfortable in a written format, please submit it. It is anonymous. To be sure of this, you can submit the form from an incognito window in your browser.

I encourage anyone with feelings or opinions on this matter to either attend the session or fill out the form. Be a part of the change that will improve our city as we speak collectively on this and other vital matters moving forward.
