Community draws together at 12th annual AkRun & Crawl

Torchbearers hosted its 12th annual AkRun & Crawl 5k race on June 9 along the scenic Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath in Merriman Valley. TB shook things up this year – the race took place in the morning, a yoga class was offered simultaneously for the non-runners who support us, and the post-race event was everyone’s favorite meal: BRUNCH.

Runners were welcomed by Judges Linda Tucci Teodosio of the Summit County Juvenile Court and Tom Teodosio  of the 9th District Court of Appeals, and the yoga session was led by Tracie Zamiska of Akron Yoga & Wellness. While we didn’t have the best weather – it started raining almost immediately – that didn’t dampen the spirit of the day! The runners carried on through the rain, and yoga participants who were rained out will be credited a free class at the Akron Yoga & Wellness studio in downtown Akron.

The race and yoga were followed by brunch at Johnny J’s Pub & Grille in Liberty Commons Plaza, where this year’s winners, Kyle Cochran and Tricia Craig, were announced, and prizes were awarded.  Attendees socialized over bacon, eggs, and waffles, and afterwards, a small group of participants and volunteers headed over to The Merchant Tavern, also located in Merriman Valley, to continue the festivities!

As our primary fundraiser, all proceeds from AkRun & Crawl benefit Torchbearers and support our mission of enhancing Greater Akron by investing in the development, connection, and engagement of our membership, comprised of evolving leaders with a passion to impact our community.

We’d like to recognize our sponsors: Bober Markey Fedorovich, the Read Family, Cedarwood Village, Johnny J’s Pub, and Second Sole.
